Oklahoma licenses plumbers statewide through the CIB. Journeyman: 3 years of experience with a licensed plumbing contractor (or military equivalent, or a current out-of-state license) + exam. Apprentice → 3 years → journeyman
Register as a plumbing apprentice and work 3 years for a licensed plumbing contractor, then submit the journeyman application and pass the third-party exam.
School substitutes up to 2 years
An associate degree or CareerTech diploma from a Committee-approved 1,000-classroom-hour plumbing program substitutes for 2 years of the requirement; a 500-hour program substitutes for 1 year.
Military plumbing experience
3 years of equivalent verifiable plumbing experience in the U.S. military qualifies you for the exam.
Out-of-state license (+ Arkansas reciprocity)
A current, good-standing out-of-state plumbing license qualifies you to sit the Oklahoma exam directly — and Oklahoma signed a plumbing RECIPROCITY agreement with Arkansas.
